Hubert “Pop” Gibson was honored Friday evening at Southside Softball Complex for his years of service to the recreational ball fields.
Before the City took over operations, Gibson made Southside and Jonesboro Softball his avocation.
“Jonesboro softball wouldn’t be what it is today without Pop,” said Mayor Harold Perrin, who presented Gibson with a Key to the City and a proclamation declaring Friday “Pop Gibson Day” in Jonesboro. Others honored Pop as well with gifts and awards.
The celebration marked the beginning of the Mountain Dew Grand Slam Classic, which will see teams of all ages compete through the weekend. Pop threw the first pitch.
