The arctic blast expected to sink temperatures into the single digits this weekend will continue to have effects on City of Jonesboro services for the coming week.
Sanitation service has been postponed until conditions become manageable and Legacy Landfill is open.
JET plans to run its regular Saturday bus schedule if street conditions are safe Saturday morning. Check the JET app, JET.ASTATE.EDU, and City social media for updates in the event bus service is terminated.
Mayor Harold Copenhaver praised City of Jonesboro streets crews and all essential workers for keeping the streets as safe as possible the past few days, and warned residents that the anticipated storm could strain City services in the week ahead.
“We see no retreat from freezing temperatures for the next week, so I ask everyone to remain patient and stay safe from the weather,” Copenhaver said.
Garbage routes were canceled at about 10:30 a.m. Friday because of scattered near-miss encounters with other vehicles struggling in the icy conditions. Sanitation drivers immediately went to work, partnering with streets crews to secure and distribute sand and chemicals around Jonesboro streets.
