Muhammad "Amin" Ulkarim is the Transportation Study Director for the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Jonesboro region. The area served by the MPO includes Jonesboro, Brookland, Bay, Bono and a portion of Craighead County. The MPO coordinates transportation planning and funding on a regional level and is responsible for planning and developing a safe, efficient, and affordable transportation system for the region. The following are the major work activities:
- Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) for the transportation investments in the MPO area for the next 20 years.
- Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) containing projects listed for improvement in the next four years.
- Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) lists the transportation planning activities and studies planned by the MPO or member agencies for the next year.
- Public Participation Plan showing the procedures and methods to keep the citizens involved in transportation planning process.
