On behalf of the personnel and staff of the Jonesboro, Arkansas Fire Department, welcome to this web site. Jonesboro is a wonderful place to live and work, and we want to keep it that way by providing fire protection and life safety services to the people we serve... the citizens of our great community.

The Jonesboro Fire Department will strive to provide the utmost protection against the perils of fire or any other emergency situation that may disrupt or become a detriment to the quality of life that is enjoyed by the citizens and visitors of the City of Jonesboro.

Fast Facts about our organization;

  • The Jonesboro Fire Department is staffed with 112 full time uniformed personnel and one clerical employee.

  • The department is divided in to four (4) divisions consisting of:
    o Administration
    o Operations
    o Training
    o Fire Prevention/Inspection/Investigation

  • The operations division is made up of three (3) shifts that work on a duty cycle of 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off duty on a reoccurring basis.

  • The department operates from seven (7) stations strategically located throughout the city covering approximately 84+ square miles which includes the campus of Arkansas State University. The seven stations are distributed between two battalions. Battalion 1 is composed of stations 1, 3, 6, and 7. Battalion 2 is composed of stations 2, 4, and 5.

  • The department’s primary response fleet consists of two (2) battalion chiefs, seven (7) pumpers, three (3) aerial apparatus. Vehicles operated on an “as needed” basis includes; one (1) heavy rescue unit, two (2) brush trucks, one (1) tanker-pumper apparatus, and one (1) Hazardous Materials vehicle along with a hazardous materials trailer equipped with haz-mat response equipment. Reserve apparatus includes two (2) pumpers.

  • Property owners within the City of Jonesboro enjoy a class 3 ISO fire insurance rating as the result of our city's efforts and water distribution system provided by the Jonesboro City Water and Light, a non-government, non-profit entity.

FAQ's

  • Does the Jonesboro Fire Department issue Burn permits?
    • The department does not issue burn permits, and we do not give permission to burn.

  • I am interested in becoming a firefighter... how, when, where can I apply?
    • Our department operates under rules of the Jonesboro Civil Service Commission. Entrance exams are given on an annual basis, usually in November or December of each year. The test is comprised of a written exam and a physical agility test. After the testing succession a list of qualified candidates is created in the order of the final scores. If a position becomes available over the course of the next 12 months a candidate is selected from the top three on the list. State law requires that candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 34 years old to become newly employed a fire department in Arkansas.
