Greetings From the Jonesboro Fire Department,

On behalf of the personnel and staff of the Jonesboro, Arkansas Fire Department, welcome to this website. Jonesboro is a wonderful place to live and work, and we want to keep it that way by providing fire protection and life safety services to the people we serve... the citizens of our great community.

Our Mission Statement...

The Jonesboro Fire Department will strive to provide the utmost protection against the perils of fire or any other emergency situation that may disrupt or become a detriment to the quality of life that is enjoyed by the inhabitants of the City of Jonesboro.

Fast Facts about our organization;

• The Jonesboro Fire Department is staffed with 112 full time uniformed personnel and two clerical employee.

• The operations division is made up of three (3) shifts that work on a duty cycle of 24 hours on duty on 48 hours off duty on a reoccurring basis.

• The department operates from six (6) stations strategically located throughout the city covering approximately  110 square miles which includes the campus of Arkansas State University.

• The department’s primary response fleet consists of six (6) pumpers, two (2) aerial apparatus, and one (1) special operations - heavy rescue vehicle. Vehicles operated on an “as needed” basis includes; two (2) brush trucks, one (1) airport crash vehicle, and one (1) tanker-pumper apparatus. Reserve apparatus includes three (3) pumpers and one (1) ladder truck.

• Property owners within the City of Jonesboro enjoy a class 3 ISO fire insurance rating as the result of our departments efforts and water distribution system provided by the Jonesboro City Water and Light, a non-government, non-profit entity.

FAQ’s

Q. Does the Jonesboro Fire Department issue Burn permits?

A. The department does not issue burn permits, and we do not give permission to burn.

Q. I am interested in becoming a firefighter... how, when, where can I apply?

A. Our department operates under rules of the Jonesboro Civil Service Commission. Entrance exams are given on an annual basis, usually in November or December of each year. The test is comprised of a written exam and a physical agility test. After the testing secession a list of qualified candidates is created in the order of the final scores. If a position becomes available over the course of the next 12 months a candidate is selected from the top three on the list. State law requires that candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 31 years old to become newly employed a fire department in Arkansas.
