September Events

          Saturday, September 19th - Down Town J-Town 5K

  • City Youth Ministries will host the first ever \"Down Town J-Town 5K.\"  Start time is 8:00 am and pre-race registration begins at 7:00 am. The event is for runners and walkers and will take place in the Downtown area of Jonesboro.  All proceeds go to City Youth Ministries as we continue to pay off our new gym floor debt.         Sunday, September 27th – Faith Day

  • We are asking all city and county churches to particpate in this day by honoring the Sesquicentennial during the mornings church service.

        Monday, September 28th – Heritage Day/Community Wide Church Service

  • Community wide worship service - A community wide worship service will be help at the convocation center. This night will be full of performances including a Symphony, City Mass Choir, Praise and Worship bands, and Rick Green with "Wallbuilders". This event will be non-denominational and free to the public. Please make plans to attend this historic night. 6:00pm at the ASU Convocation Center.

        Tuesday, September 29th – Honoring Veterans Day. 4pm at St. Bernards Auditorium.

  • The City of Jonesboro and Craighead County Sesquicentennial’s Military Observance day will be held September 29th.All residents are asked to help honor Craighead County’s veterans as well as all members of the armed forces.Military Observance day will include Flag Etiquette presentations at several public schools throughout the County.A special ceremony will be held at 4pm at St. Bernard’s Auditorium hosted by Col. Jerry W. Bowen, President of the Craighead County Veterans Monument Foundation and Former Director of the United States National Cemetery System, US Department of Veterans Affairs.The event will include short Presentations and displays of Military Uniforms from Civil War to Present. A Historical Presentation written by Danny Honnell, on the History of Craighead County and the City of Jonesboro and the importance of military in the creation of our Community.The ceremony will also include a US Flag Presentation by the Jonesboro Elks Club and a Demonstration by the Craighead County Veterans Monument Foundation Honor Guard, the Caledonian Drum and Bugle Corp. Bagpipes.All veterans organizations will be present as well as the Craighead County Veteran Service Officers and all branches of the Armed Forces Recruiting offices.

     The event is open to the public and is free of charge as are all the Sesquicentennial Events.

        Wednesday, September 30th – Agriculture Day

  • The ASU ABI Institute will be having an open house starting at 10:00am-11:30. The ABI Building is located on ASU Campus. The new building as you cross the railroad tracks on Caraway. If you are interested in attending this open house please be in the ABI Lobby at 10:00am.

        Thursday, October 1st – Business Day

  • Kiwanis Club of Jonesboro presents "150 Years and Counting" presented by Mr. Danny Honnoll. This will be a special historical Sesquicentennial presentation.
    When: Thursday October 1st
    Where: Cooper Center on ASU Campus
    Time: 11:30am - 1:00pm
    Cost: $15, Tickets can be purchased at the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce 1709 East Nettleton, Credit Bureau of Jonesboro 109 E.   • Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce 94th Annual Meeting - Hosted by Brad Edwards. Thursday, October 1st @ 6:30pm at the ASU Convocation Center. Contact Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce for ticket sales and other inquiries.

    Friday, October 2nd – Education Day
  • Art Contest - The City of Jonesboro will be hosting an Art Contest for the county 1st-3rd grades. We ask that the students pick their favorite historical landmark and draw/paint it. The top 10 pictures will be displayed in City Hall at the conclusion of the contest. The top 3 winners will be displayed in the Jonesboro Sun. The first place winner will be displayed on a Jonesboro billboard, provided by Halsey, and will receive prizes from our sponsors.   • Night Ranger: FREE LIVE concert on Main St. Downtown Jonesboro.
  • Chi Omega The Chi Omega Sorority and Jonesboro Parks and Recreation Sesquicentennial Run for a Wish.  This 5K Run / Walk is Part of the Ridge Rider Athletic Club Run / Walk series.  All monies made from the race will benefit the Make a Wish Foundation.  The run / walk will start in downtown Jonesboro and will be a part of the Sesquicentennial Celebration. 
  • Live Music ALL DAY! Coca-Cola Backyard BBQ Contest!
  • A CAR SHOW will be held in the Craighead County Courthouse parking lot, located on the corner of Union and Jefferson.
  • Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk: Craighead Forest Park Pavilion 3

    Saturday, October 3rd ASU Exhibition Opening!

    Arkansas State University Museum will open the exhibition, "Exploring the Frontier:  Arkansas 1540-1840" on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 in honor of Jonesboro's sesquicentennial celebration.  Through this exciting hands-on exhibition, visitors will experience the foundational history of Arkansas that eventually led to the settlement of Jonesboro and other towns and cities.

     Family time is 9 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; HiStory Time is at 2:00 p.m.; and an International Party is at 3:00 p.m. in celebration of the people from around the world who are part of Arkansas's past and future.
